16,091 Acre Jensen Creek Fire Now 94% Contained
Firefighting efforts continued throughout the weekend in north eastern Minnesota.
According to the National Incident Management Organization, The 16,091 acre Jensen Creek Fire is now ninety-four percent contained, while the 13 acre Horse River Fire remains zero percent contained.
Authorities say light rain occurred over the northern half of the Jenkins Creek Fire this weekend. Unmanned Aerial Systems mapped the perimeter to locate residual areas of heat. Winds in the late afternoon yesterday precluded the use of aircraft. No additional sources of heat were detected in the southern half of the fire.
Wildland Fire Modules continue working in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area to suppress areas of heat on the Horse River Fire. Crews there will continue to methodically work their way across the body of the fire to thoroughly extinguish any remaining heat.
Cooler temperatures are likely to moderate fire behavior, though another drying trend has begun. The outlook is for a continued period of moderate weather that should allow crews to make additional progress in suppressing the Jenkins Creek and Horse River fires.
