42nd Annual Duluth First Ship Contest Underway
(Learfield News/Duluth, MN) — Thousands of entries are coming in for the 42nd annual First Ship Contest on Lake Superior.
Jayson Hron of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority says the goal is to accurately predict when the first ship of the season enters the city’s harbor.
He says traditionally that first saltie, that first ocean going arrival, marks the beginning of spring in the Port of Duluth-Superior.
He says the Barbro G was the first saltie to reach Duluth in 2024, arriving early on April 1st.
You can enter the contest at visitduluth.com through March 16th.
