63rd Annual Player of the Year Event

The 63rd Annual Player of the Year event was held Tuesday night at the Best Western Plus in New Ulm. 47 area athletes were recognized and Players of the year were selected for Girl’s and Boy’s Basketball and Wrestling. The Players of the Year are:

Girl’s Basketball Player is Morgan Mathiowetz from SE/ St Mary’s. Mathiowetz helped the Knights to a fourth place finish at the Class A Tournament. She scored 1,139 points, grabbed 280 rebounds, had 183 steals and 159 assists. This All State player has scored 2,513 career points with 695 rebounds, 430 assists and 363 steals.

Missing-Boy’s Basketball Player of the year is Jack Gross from BOLD. Gross helped the Warriors reach the Class A Tournament, by scoring 659 points, grabbing 168 rebounds, handing out a team high 165 assists and had 49 steals. This conference MVP ends up with 2,032 career points (school record), 600 rebounds, 567 assists and 235 steals.

The Wrestler of the year for the second year in a row is Nick Slater from LCWM Area. Slater helped the Knights to a third place finish in the Class A Team tournament. Then went 4 and 0 in the individual tournament to claim the Class A 189 Championship. Slater ends up with 187 career wins and 110 career falls.
