Severe Storms Bring Strong Winds, Hail, Flooding and Tornado
(Learfield News/Chanhassen, MN) — Many parts of the state are cleaning up after severe thunderstorms rumbled across Minnesota on Sunday.
The National Weather Service reports a tornado was spotted south of Appleton near the Minnesota River in Lac qui Parle County.
There were wind gusts of 71 miles per hour near De Graff in Swift County, 66 in St. Paul, 63 at Starbuck in Pope County, and 61 mile per hour guts near Buffalo in Wright County.
Power poles and trees were downed in Chippewa County, Hennepin County, and the Iron Range, and grain bins were buckled near Sunburg in Kandiyohi County.
Plymouth and Ramsey reported 1.75-inch hail, 1.25 inch hail stones fell near Litchfield, and there was one inch hail in Yellow Medicine and Lakeville.
Flash flooding occurred in Stevens, Ramsey, and Pope counties.
