Kitayama wins 3M Open
(Blaine, MN/Minnesota News Network) — Kurt Kitayama is celebrating his second career P-G-A Tour victory after winning the 3-M Open at the T-P-C Twin Cities course in Blaine. Kitayama finished atop the leaderboard by one stroke after shooting 23 under par. He followed up Saturday’s course record 11-under-par-60 with a 6-under-par-65 in yesterday’s closing round. Kitayama had a 26-hole stretch covering Saturday and Sunday where he played 17-under-par. Sam Stevens finished in second at 22-under. David Lipsky, Matt Wallace, Pierceson Coody and Jake Knapp finished in a four-way tie for third place at 20-under-par. Spring Lake Park graduate Troy Merritt finished 44th at 11-under-par. Former Gopher golfer Erik van Rooyen and Fargo’s Tom Hoge each missed the cut. Stillwater native Frankie Capan III had to withdraw from the tourney after the opening round.
