Vikings get upset win, Packers Lose, Bears have wild ending

(Detroit, MI/Minnesota News Network) — Vikings quarterback J-J McCarthy had a strong performance in his return from injury as Minnesota upset the Detroit Lions 27-24 at Ford Field yesterday. The Vikings quarterback threw for touchdowns on Minnesota’s first two drives of the game, and he added a rushing touchdown in the third quarter. Minnesota iced the game when McCarthy threw a perfect back-shoulder pass to Jalen Nailor for a first down late in the fourth quarter. Vikes linebacker Blake Cashman of Eden Prairie had 14 tackles and a forced fumble. The Vikings improved to 4-4, but still sit in fourth-place in the N-F-C North. Lions Q-B Jared Goff threw for 284 yards and a couple of touchdowns. Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St. Brown each recorded 97 receiving yards for the Lions, who dropped to 5-3. The Vikes will host the Ravens on Sunday at noon.

The Panthers pulled off a massive upset at Lambeau Field. Rookie Ryan Fitzgerald nailed a 49-yard field goal to give Carolina a 16-13 win over the Packers. The Panthers have won four of their last five games. Jordan Love threw for more than 270 yards to go with an interception for Green Bay, which entered the game as a two-touchdown favorite. Green Bay is concerned that tight end Tucker Kraft tore his A-C-L in the loss. Kraft was hurt during the third quarter and coach Matt LaFleur said postgame he will undergo testing on Monday. Kraft has 30 catches for 469 yards and six touchdowns this season, all team highs.

The Chicago Bears avoided a massive collapse with a 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium. The Bears led 41-27 with just over two minutes left in regulation before the Bengals scored a touchdown, recovered an onside kick, and scored another TD to take the lead in the final minute. However, Caleb Williams tossed a 58-yard touchdown to Colston Loveland with 17 seconds to play. Williams passed for 280 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, and he also caught a TD from DJ Moore. The Bears have won four of five. Joe Flacco had 470 passing yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in the losing effort. Cincinnati has dropped six of seven.
