PRECINCT CAUSES HELD TUESDAY

Around 100 people attended the DFL Precinct caucus at New Ulm High School Tuesday night.  Attendees had the opportunity to vote on a preference ballot for governor between candidates Amy Klobuchar and Christopher Seymore.  Klobuchar won the straw poll with 134 out of 146  votes.  Organizers say it was one of the larger turnouts in recent years.  On the Republican side, Brown County heavily favored Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth for governor in a caucus straw poll at the New Ulm Community Center.  Demuth got 19 of 44 straw ballot votes with Kendall Qualls getting 9 votes.  The local Republican landscape will be different next year as Representative Paul Torkelson and Senator Gary Dahms have both announced they won’t seek re-election this year.
