James Overland
James Joseph Overland, age 82 of Wadena, Minnesota, formerly of Morris, MN, passed away on Tuesday, February. 24, 2026, in the Hospice House at Sanford on Broadway in Fargo, North Dakota after battling cancer.
Visitation for Jim Overland will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena, MN.
Memorial services celebrating the life of James Overland will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wadena.
Jim Overland was born to Joe and Alvina (Petersen) Overland on November 29, 1943, in Cove, WA. He moved with his family to Onstad Township in Polk County, MN, when he was eight months old. He attended Fertile school graduating in 1962. He then attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, graduating with a degree in Drafting and Estimating. Jim accepted a job with Lampert Lumber and managed lumber yards in St. Peter, Hanska, and Morris, MN. He then managed the Municipal Liquor store for the City of Morris, retiring in 2009.
Jim and his high school sweetheart, Nina Rude, were married on September 5, 1964, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile, MN. They raised three wonderful children Sara, John, and David. Jim was a dedicated member of the Lions Club in Morris for many years and was a dependable force behind the scenes of the bingo stand at the Stevens County Fair. In 2015, Jim and Nina moved to Wadena, to be closer to their kids and grandchildren. Jim enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, working in his wood shop, and most of all, being with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years Nina; children: Sara (Kevin) Ross, John (Karla) Overland, and David Overland; grandchildren: Isaac Overland, Gabrielle Ross, Noah (McKenzi) Ross, Elsa Overland, Abram Overland, Phillip Ross, Wesley Overland, and Nolan Overland; sister: Ardell (Gilmur) Eia; sister-in-law: Marian (Wally) Salzwedel; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Joe and Alvina Overland; father-in-law, Alfred Rude; mother-in-law Hilma Rude; sister: Arlene Montreuil; brother-in-law: Ernie Montreuil; niece: Diane Montreuil Dale; nephew: Keith Montreuil; sister-in-law: Judy Stoxen; and daughter-in-law: Samantha Overland.
