St Thomas Mens BB to NIT…Gopher Women host NCAA’s

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team will take on Green Bay in the opening round of the N-C-A-A Tournament on Friday at Williams Arena. The 22-8 Golden Gophers earned home court advantage for the first- and second-round games thanks to finishing in the top 16 in the country. Minnesota is a four-seed in the Sacramento Region and will face the 13-seed Phoenix, who enter Friday’s game with a 25-8 season mark. This will be the first appearance in the “Big Dance” for Minnesota since 2018. On the other side of the regional bracket, five-seed Ole Miss will take on 12-seed Gonzaga. The 23-11 Rebels and the 24-9 Bulldogs tip off at 2:30 P-M on Friday at The Barn, with the Minnesota and Green Bay matchup set to start at 5 P-M on Friday. Friday’s two winning teams will square off on Sunday at Williams Arena for a chance to advance to the Sweet 16. (St. Paul, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The St. Thomas men’s basketball is headed to Division I postseason for the first time in program history. The Tommies have officially earned a spot in the 32 team National Invitation Tournament, marking their first Division I postseason appearance in their first year of eligibility. St. Thomas finished the season 24–9, taking second place in the Summit League regular season standings before falling in the conference semifinals. That left them just outside the N-C-A-A Tournament field, but well within reach of an N-I-T berth. The Tommies will now travel west to face Seattle University in the opening round. Tip-off is set for Tuesday night at 9 P-M at the Redhawk Center in Seattle. The winner moves on to face either Auburn or South Alabama in Round Two.

(Undated/Minnesota News Network) — March Madness is officially here. The N-C-A-A Tournament released its 68-team bracket on Sunday. Duke is the top-overall seed in the tourney and will represent the East Region. Arizona is number-one in the West, Michigan sits atop the Midwest and Florida is the final one-seed in the South. Miami-Ohio slipped into the tournament despite suffering its first loss of the season in the MAC quarterfinals. They’ll face SMU on Wednesday in a First Four matchup while Lehigh battles Prairie View in the other win-and-in contest. A pair of games kick off the First Four tomorrow when N-C State duels Texas and Howard squares off against U-M-B-C. The Big Ten had nine teams earn invites.
