A person of interest in a 96′ disappearance case arrested on ammo charge

According to a news release this week from the Marshall County Sheriff –

In March of 2025 Marshall County Sheriff Jason Boman authorized a Task Force to actively investigate the 1996 Veronica Lynn Safranski missing persons case. The Task Force was formed with Investigators from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Pine to Prairie Drug Task Force, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The purpose of this task force is for investigators to share resources and expertise while investigating the Safranski case.

During the course of this investigation, Investigators learned that Kevin Scott Skjerven was in possession of firearm ammunition.

On July 30, 2025 Officers executed a large scale search warrant at Kevin Skjerven’s residence in rural Newfolden, MN in Marshall County. Skjerven was arrested for the criminal charge of Felon/Ineligible Person to Possess Ammunition, as is currently being held in the Pennington County Jail, pending Marshall County charges. The case is on-going and investigators will continue to diligently investigate the disappearance of Veronica Safranski.

On October 26th, 1996, Safranski disappeared from a costume party at Mick’s Bar in Warren, MN at approximately midnight. She was dressed in a Native American costume, believed to be representing Pocahontas. Safranski was last seen leaving Mick’s Bar with Kevin Skjerven in a black Dodge 4 x4 pickup with Oregon plates.
