Authorities Advise Staying Home This Weekend
Authorities across the area are advising travelers to be aware of current weather conditions.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says visibility is down to zero in some areas, along with drifting across roads due to the blowing snow. They said in a press release Friday afternoon, “if you do not need to travel, please stay home. If you do get stuck, first responders might not be able to reach you until the weather improves.”
The North Dakota Highway Patrol also urged motorists to travel with care and stay up to date. I29 is closed from Grand Forks to the Canadian border.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a cold weather advisory remains in effect until 9pm Friday. An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect from 6pm Saturday to noon on Tuesday. For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 39 below expected. For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 50 below expected.
