Authorities Issue Text Message Scam Warning

Authorities say they have received a report regarding a toll enforcement scam.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the scam involves text messages that appear to be from the Philippines.

Officials say the sham messages state “Final Notice: Enforcement will begin after May 17st”. The text goes on to say “your tolls are still unpaid”, and “the DMV will suspend your vehicle You will face legal action and damage to your credit You may be considered an illegal driver”. The message includes a link, and instructions on how to reply and pay.

The Sheriff’s Office recommends not clicking on the link or calling the phone number. Contact your local law enforcement agency if you have any questions.
