Bauer Appeal Denied

The Winthrop man who killed 79-year-old Dennis Weitzenkamp on his farm in 2022 had his appeal denied Monday.

Forty-eight-year-old Travis Bauer worked on Weitzenkamp’s farm for years and the criminal complaint says he would benefit greatly from Weitzenkamp’s death.  Investigators confirmed gunshot residue on Bauer’s clothing and he lied to police about his whereabouts.

Bauer appealed his second-degree murder conviction and the Court of Appeals Monday released their opinion affirming Bauer’s murder conviction.

He is serving up to 30 years.
