BAUER SENTENCED IN WEITZENKAMP MURDER

A Winthrop man has been sentenced in the murder of a rural Winthrop man in September 2022.  Travis Bauer was sentenced to 30.5 years in State Prison for killing Dennis Weitzenkamp on his Winthrop farm.   Bauer was an employee on Weitzenkamp’s farm.  Financial records show that he was in financial trouble and in danger of losing his home.  It was also learned that Bauer stood to benefit greatly in the event of Weitzenkamp’s death.  Weitzenkamp’s body was found in his machine shed slumped in a chair.  Bauer also admitted to lying to authorities during his first two interviews.
