Benintendi Powers White Sox Past Twins with Two Homers, 5 RBIs in 12–3 Victory
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Andrew Benintendi had a monster night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs as the Chicago White Sox rolled to a 12–3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.
Benintendi launched a solo shot in the second inning and later crushed a three-run homer in the eighth to cap off Chicago’s third consecutive win. The White Sox offense was firing on all cylinders, with Kyle Teel and Lenyn Sosa adding back-to-back home runs in the seventh, and Brooks Baldwin contributing three hits and an RBI.
Davis Martin (6–9) earned the win — his third straight decision — allowing three runs on six hits over six solid innings.
Twins starter Simeon Woods Richardson was effective early, striking out seven while surrendering two earned runs over five innings. But Minnesota’s bullpen struggled, beginning in the sixth inning when reliever Thomas Hatch (2–1) allowed RBI singles to both Benintendi and Baldwin, breaking a 3–3 tie and giving the White Sox a 5–3 lead.
Teel and Sosa went deep off Hatch to start the seventh, extending Chicago’s advantage. Benintendi’s eighth-inning blast put the game out of reach.
Minnesota got on the board early when Byron Buxton tripled to lead off the bottom of the first and scored on Trevor Larnach’s single. The Twins led 3–1 entering the fifth, but a bizarre sequence helped Chicago tie it. Will Robertson’s broken-bat chopper back to the mound turned into an error when the throw to start a double play sailed into center field. Both runners came around to score on a Bryan Ramos double, knotting the game at 3–3.
Benintendi continues to rake at Target Field — in 39 career games there, he’s now batting .344 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs.
