Bird Flu Hits 2 More Commercial Turkey Operations in Minnesota

(Learfield News/St. Paul, MN) —  The state Board of Animal Health is reporting bird flu has hit two more commercial turkey operations in Le Sueur and Blue Earth counties.

Minnesota Turkey Growers Association President Jake Vlaminck of rural Blomkest says the virus is carried by migrating wild birds, and it’s arriving early this fall. He says you’re usually looking more in October for activity.

At least six commercial turkey operations in Minnesota have been affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza this fall.
