Boldy has 2 goals and assist as Wild score final 5 goals to beat Islanders 6-3

ST. PAUL, MN – Matt Boldy recorded two goals and an assist as the Minnesota Wild surged in the final period to defeat the New York Islanders 6-3 on Saturday night.

Marco Rossi, Frederick Gaudreau, Yakov Trenin, and Marcus Foligno also found the back of the net for Minnesota, who have now won five of their last seven games. Jared Spurgeon added two assists, and Filip Gustavsson turned away 30 shots in the victory.

For the Islanders, Kyle Palmieri and Brock Nelson each scored a goal and tallied an assist, while Anders Lee also scored. Maxim Tsyplakov had two assists in the loss. The Islanders have now dropped three of their last four after a seven-game win streak. Ilya Sorokin stopped 27 shots but couldn’t prevent the collapse.

Boldy marked his first multigoal game since November 7th when his centering pass midway through the third period deflected off Islanders defenseman Anthony DeAngelo and snuck past Sorokin. The Wild’s second goal also came off a deflection by DeAngelo.

With the Islanders trailing, Sorokin was pulled for the extra attacker with five minutes remaining. However, Foligno quickly sealed the win with an empty-net goal.

Palmieri continued his hot streak, scoring his fourth goal in the last six games, bringing his point total to 10 in the past 12 contests after struggling with just one goal and two assists in his previous 12 games.

Minnesota played without center Joel Eriksson Ek, who was scratched with a lower-body injury. As a result, the Wild dressed 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Eriksson Ek is set to represent Sweden at the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.

Up Next: Both teams are off for the 4 Nations Face-off break. The Islanders will host Dallas on February 23, while the Wild will visit Detroit on February 22.
