BROMLEY CARR
Bromley Oren Carr Jr. was born December 16, 1952 in Dickinson, ND to Bromley Oren Sr. and Sara Belle (Thompson) Carr. His family called him Oren.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 16, 2026 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
He passed away February 10, 2026 due to complications of diabetes, and other medical issues related to diabetes such as chronic congestive heart failure, severe kidney disease, neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy in his eyes which he was slowly going blind from, hearing loss, and most recently, dementia.
He was raised in Grassy Butte, ND until he was 9 years old, at which time he came to Thief River Falls to help his aunt and uncle Frank & Lily May Hible on their farm south of Carpenter’s Corner for the summer. He continued to stay and work for them through high school.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972. He worked at Arctic Cat and Firestone. Also, for local farmers, Pete and Deb Carlson. Bromley truly enjoyed his time of working the fields for Pete and Deb. Firestone was thee love of his life. He enjoyed working for Vern Schommer. His respect for Vern & Pete was outstanding. There was very little he did not know about fixing gas powered vehicles, unless they were made by a foreign company.
He married Dawn Taylor. They later divorced. Their children are Melanie, Shari and Teresa.
He married Lynn Hagen on June 7, 1996. She brought Sally, Eric, and David into his life.
During his adult life, he enjoyed bowling, deer hunting, soft ball (pitcher) and fishing at the Lake of the Woods, Long Lake (south of Bagley) and in Canada, traveling to Mexico (where he was able to do some deep sea fishing), taking several cruises (with Lynn and friends Kendall and Renae Jensen) visiting places such as Hawaii, the Bahamas, Mexico, Florida, the Virgin Islands, the Caribbean Islands, Jamaica, and Kiribati. Talking on the phone (he was nick-named Hollywood) was his recent job. If allowed, his goodbyes usually lingered up to an hour or two.
After all his toes were amputated on his left foot, he was forced into retirement in 2018.
His right foot was amputated 8/13/24, lower leg amputated 8/14/24. Then further amputation up to mid-thigh 8/20/2024. His left ring finger was amputated January 22, 2026.
He looked forward to going to Fairview, MT every Thanksgiving to visit his relatives, staying at his brother, Benton (and Deb’s) house. He loved it when all the relatives showed up for the meal so he could see them, catch up on the “news” and see how much the children had grown and to see the new babies.
He also looked forward to going fishing in Canada over Father’s Day weekend every year. In 2024, Bromley was not able to go fishing in Canada because of his dialysis. Gene and Hunter Roller gave up their fishing trip to Canada to take Bromley to Baudette. Gene took care of Bromley’s wounds on his feet, his G7 meter and took him to Roseau for a dialysis treatment. Bromley was awed by the generosity and grateful they took the time and the sacrifices they made. In 2025, Gene, Hunter, and Dayton Roller took Bromley (Papa) on a fishing trip to Lake of the Woods. Bromley enjoyed it immensely.
His memory was long. He was able to recall many historical facts of Thief River Falls that happened in his lifetime which he made interesting to tell. This does not mean everything was accurate, but it was how he chose to tell the story.
