Burns Restrictions Expanded

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has expanded the areas subject to open burning restrictions.

Counties subject to open burning restrictions now include Cook, Koochiching, Lake, Lake of the Woods, and northern St. Louis. The addition of those counties means that the northern ⅔ of the state is now subject to the restrictions.

Escaped fire from burning vegetative debris is Minnesota’s number one cause of wildfires and burning restrictions help reduce wildfire risk. The DNR will not issue permits for the open burning of brush or yard waste in these counties until restrictions are lifted.
