City Council Meeting Update

The Morris City Council unanimously passed a resolution at their regular meeting on Monday night approving an industrial user and discharge agreement with Fresha. This will allow the carrot-producing company to hook up to city water and sewer. Mayor Kevin Wohlers said the city’s system has the capacity to handle Fresha’s needs. Councilmember Jeff Miller noted the city will need to monitor the wastewater and what Fresha is dumping into the system. Fresha is paying for the work to connect their operations to the city water and sewer lines. The initial agreement will last for five years, with options to renew every five years.

Also at the City Council meeting, the Council approved an increase in sewer and water utility rates for 2026. Rates will increase 1 percent for water and 4.3 percent for sewer. The increase was described as the result of normal inflationary pressures, and has nothing to do with the water and sewer agreement with Fresha that was approved at the same meeting. Monies raised from the increase will go to the Water and Sewer Fund for future projects. The increases will go into effect January 1, 2026.
