Cold Spring Poultry Plant Spill Hospitalizes 26

(Learfield News/Cold Spring, MN) – A chemical spill at a Cold Spring poultry plant Friday is blamed for sending 26 people to the hospital.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says peracetic acid, an organic liquid used as a surface cleaner and sanitizer, was spilled inside Pilgrim’s Pride.

The plant was evacuated, acid was contained to the building, and some employees were treated at the scene.

More severely affected employees were sent to St. Cloud Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The plant was expected to reopen Saturday.
