College Hockey, VB, Soccer news over the weekend
(Undated/Minnesota News Network) — In men’s college hockey action over the weekend, Minnesota had a loss and a tie against Boston College, Minnesota-Duluth split a two-game set with Augustana, St. Cloud State earned a pair of wins over Bemidji State, Minnesota State-Mankato went 1-1 against Omaha, and St. Thomas was swept by North Dakota.
The 14th-ranked Golden Gopher volleyball team got back to the winner’s circle with a three-set sweep of Ohio State in Minneapolis. Minnesota posted a season-best 11 aces, including four from freshman Kelly Kinney. Julia Hanson had 16 kills. The Gophers improved to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten. The visiting Buckeyes dropped to 3-11 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Minnesota is 9-1 at home this year. Minnesota visits Oregon on Friday night at 8 P-M.
The University of Minnesota women’s soccer team got a career high 12 saves from goalkeeper Sarah Martin of Champlin and earned a 0-0 tie with ninth-ranked U-C-L-A yesterday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul. The Gopher netminder secured her fourth clean sheet of the season as Minnesota moved to 6-6-and-2 overall and 2-4-and-2 in the Big Ten. The visiting Bruins are now 8-4-and-1 overall and 4-2-and-2 in the league. The Gophers will visit Washington on Thursday night at 9 P-M before a trip to Oregon for Sunday soccer at 3 P-M.
