College Hockey Weekend Roundup
(undated/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s hockey team not only stopped a lengthy losing streak but they also swept No. 8 ranked Wisconsin over the weekend at 3-M Arena at Mariucci. The Gophers had dropped seven straight dating back to before the holiday break but manhandled Bucky with a pair of home wins as they got a 4-1 win on Friday and followed it up with an 8-4 victory on Saturday. The Gophers are now 10-16-1 on the season and will host Ohio State next weekend on the U of M campus.
Elsewhere, in the N-C-H-C this weekend, St. Cloud State dropped a pair at home against Miami and Denver took two from Minnesota Duluth. In the C-C-H-A, Augustana swept two from Lake Superior State; Minnesota State got a weekend road sweep over Ferris State and Bemidji State split with Northern Michigan. St. Thomas ran their win streak to 11 straight with a Friday win over Michigan Tech but saw it come to an end as they fell 4-3 in the rematch on Saturday.
In the W-C-H-A, the Gopher women’s team split with Wisconsin while St. Thomas swept both games from St. Cloud State. Minnesota State and Bemidji skated to a weekend split. Minnesota Duluth dropped a pair this weekend at Ohio State.
