County Unemployment Numbers Released

Unemployment figures remained generally stable in the area for the month of July in data that was released last week by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Stevens County held steady at 2.9 percent unemployment, the same as June’s number. Also reporting no change from June was Big Stone County with 4.2 percent unemployment. Douglas County had a 3.3 percent rate, up 0.1 percent from June. Grant County had 4.6 percent, down 0.1 percent, while Pope County had 3.5 percent, also down 0.1 percent from June. Traverse County had 3.7 percent, up 0.2 percent. And Swift County showed the largest increase in unemployment in the area with 5.8 percent, up 1.4 percent from June.
Minnesota’s statewide unemployment rate was 3.9 percent, up 0.1 percent from June. The overall unemployment rate in the U.S. was 4.6 percent, up 0.2 percent from June.
