DAKOTAH RECONCILIATION RIDE COMING TO NEW ULM
Dakota riders are continuing their tradition of a horse ride of reconciliation and healing and this year, the ride will be spending time in New Ulm. The reconciliation ride had taken place from 2007 to 2022 from South Dakota to Mankato where the mass hanging of 38 Dakota men took place in 1862. The ride resumes this year and it will be coming through and spending two nights in New Ulm. Organizer Colleen Hokenson says they will ride to Sleepy Eye Monday, then trailer their horses to New Ulm for a program at Turner Hall Monday night. Tuesday, they will go back to Sleepy Eye, continue the ride through New Ulm to Courtland and then back to stay another night in New Ulm Tuesday night. Hokensen says you are welcome to line Broadway as the riders come through. She said the timing isn’t certain but updates will be done on their Facebook page. The day after Christmas there will be a program and a big feed in Mankato, the anniversary of the mass hanging.
