Edith “Peggy” Horning

Peggy Horning, age 91 of Morris, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Stevens County Medical Center in Morris, MN.

Visitation for Peggy Horning will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN.

Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman, MN.

Funeral services for Edith “Peggy” Horning will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman, MN, with Rev. Craig Palach officiating.

Burial will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery north of Johnson, MN.

Edith “Peggy” Marie Blakesley, daughter of Ralph and Edith (Wallace) Blakesley was born on July 14, 1933, in Willmar, Minnesota. Edith attended West Central Ag School in Morris, MN. While attending a roller skating event at Perkins, she met a handsome 16-year-old man, Wallace Horning. The couple married on April 10, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church. They operated a dairy farm from 1954 to 1965 and then moved to a farm in Eldorado Township where they lived with their family until July, 2024 when they moved to Legacy Assisted Living in Morris, MN.

Peggy was a dedicated wife and mother and was known for her tasty cooking. She was always buying and reading the many cookbooks she had. Peggy was also a master gardener, ordering plants and seeds from her favorite Jung catalog. Between her vegetables, flowers and baked goods, she won several grand champion and blue ribbons at the Stevens County Fair. Peggy was active in 4-H, Homemakers, kids school activities, Chokio Garden Club, LWML and her church.

Peggy is survived by her children: Kathy (Butch) Blasing of Brainerd, MN, Mike Horning of Vail, Colorado, Larry (Deb) Horning of Virginia, MN, Kristi Vipond (John) of Lucile, Idaho and Salt Lake City, Utah, Lee (Judy) Horning of Indio, California, Daniel Horning of St. Joseph, MN, and Kelly (Tami) Horning of St. Joseph, MN; 16 grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Wally (March, 2025); parents Ralph and Edith; son-in-law: Rick Vipond; sisters: Rachel (Willie) Martin and Mary Beyer; and brothers: Paul (Janice) Blakesley, Donald Blakesley, and Dick (Marlene) Blakesley.

Arrangements are with Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN.
