Edwards scores 44 points, Randle adds 20 in return to help the Timberwolves beat the Suns 116-98
PHOENIX, AZ – Anthony Edwards erupted for 44 points, while Julius Randle added 20 in his return from injury, helping the Minnesota Timberwolves secure a 116-98 win over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night.
Edwards took over in the third quarter, scoring 17 points as Minnesota erased a two-point halftime deficit and surged ahead 83-72 entering the fourth. The Timberwolves never looked back, controlling the final period to claim just their third win in the last nine games.
Donte DiVincenzo knocked down eight three-pointers on his way to 24 points, while Randle made his first appearance since January 30 after missing 13 games with a right groin strain.
Phoenix, now in a freefall with 11 losses in their last 14 games, was led by Kevin Durant’s 26 points. The Suns held a slim lead for much of the first half and went into the break up 51-49, with Randle leading all scorers at that point with 16. Devin Booker added 12 for Phoenix but was quiet in the second half.
Minnesota capitalized on sloppy Suns play, turning 22 turnovers into 40 points. One defining sequence came in the fourth when Randle threw down a dunk over Suns rookie Ryan Dunn. Moments later, Dunn’s errant inbounds pass was stolen by Jaden McDaniels, who converted an easy layup to extend Minnesota’s lead to 95-78 with 8:21 remaining.
Team Outlooks
- Timberwolves: After a rough few weeks, Minnesota looked rejuvenated with Randle back in action. With the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference up for grabs, the Timberwolves could be primed for a late-season push.
- Suns: Despite having a full roster, Phoenix continues to struggle against playoff-caliber opponents. Their postseason hopes are fading fast, and without a drastic turnaround, a playoff berth seems unlikely.
