Fatal Yellow Medicine Plane Crash

One person died when an airplane crashed in Yellow Medicine County Monday evening.

The Sheriff’s Office says at just before 5:30pm, the Granite Falls Airport received a report of a jet experiencing engine trouble while near the airport with two people on board.

A short time later, a 911 call was received reporting that the aircraft had crashed near Highway 23, just north of the intersection with County Road 39.

When emergency responders arrived, one individual was located standing alongside the highway and received medical attention. The second occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Names have not been released as the investigation continues.
