February 18th Stevens County Board of Commissioners Meeting
Human Services Director Liberty Sleiter presented a 2024 Human Services Activity Report to the Stevens County Board of Commissioners at their regular meeting yesterday. Overall intakes rose to 796, which is 20 more than 2023. Child placements ticked up to 48, up from 43 the prior year. The department has seen increases in cases of children’s mental health, and child welfare. Adult workgroup numbers have seen increases in adult services, child care licensing, and the developmentally disabled. The number of cases for those on MNSure dropped to 653 in 2024. In 2023 that number was 737, and in 2022 it was 835.
Also at the Board of Commissioners meeting, representatives of Fresha provided an engineered plan to address odor complaints associated with their existing facility. This was required by a condition on their most recent Conditional Use Permit. Fresha will use an engineered plan from Industrial & Environmental Concepts, Inc. to cover over their entire wastewater pond to prevent any odors from leaving the site. That process will cost about $167,000.
