FEDERAL JUDGE ORDERS RELEASE OF MSU-MANKATO STUDENT DETAINED BY ICE

A federal judge is ordering the release of an international MSU-Mankato student who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Mohammed Hoque from Bangladesh has been jailed since March 28.  U.S District Judge Jerry Blackwell says Hoque should be released because he was targeted for his social media posts.  Hoque filed a lawsuit claiming he was being detained unlawfully and believes he was arrested because of his support of Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas.  Hoque’s immigration court case is a separate legal proceeding that will determine if he can lawfully remain in the United States.  That hearing is scheduled for today (Wednesday).
