George Taylor Burnett was born on March 2, 1949, in Morris, Minnesota the son of James and Ruth (Howard) Burnett. He grew up on a farm south of Alberta and attended school in Alberta. He was proud to be a member of the last graduating class from Alberta High School in 1967. Go Blue Jays! After high school, he went on to become a third generation farmer with his father.
On June 7, 1975, he married Becky Lynn Felstul. They made their home on the farm south of Alberta where they raised their five children. George enjoyed farming until he retired in 2024.
When not farming, George enjoyed frequent trips to the casino, watching his kids play sports, soda pop, day old Willie’s chicken, and bowling. He was honored to serve on the Chokio/Alberta school board for many years. He enjoyed westerns, especially Dances with Wolves. His sense of humor was evident wherever he went.
George struggled for several years with untreated mental health issues and addictions. George had a larger than life personality which masked his inner struggles, even from his family. We want to take this opportunity to shed light on mental health and drug addiction, diseases all too common. We encourage anyone struggling to seek help. Sometimes, the ones we least expect are masters of disguise and can hide struggles from those who love them the most.
He is survived by his children: Sarah (Travis) Rother of Chaska, MN, Nathan Burnett of Ruthton, MN, Aaron Burnett of Morris, MN, Adam Burnett of Marshall, MN, and Matthew (Cari) Burnett of Alberta, MN; sixteen grandchildren: Maggie and Hattie Rother, Kendra Wevley, Isabella and Liam Burnett, Hunter (Madi), Taya, Jacey, Hudson, Jocelyn, and Titan Burnett, Rayna Burnett, Jacoby, Jamis, Lana, and Bentlee Burnett; and his sister: Jean Magnuson.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Becky; parents: James and Ruth; and brother: Robin.
