Gopher Football Wins Ninth Straight Bowl Game
(Minnesota News Network/Phoenix, AZ) — The University of Minnesota football season ended on a high note.
The Gophers beat New Mexico in overtime 20-17 during the Rate Bowl from Chase Field on Friday.
Gopher redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Lindsey threw a game-winning touchdown to redshirt freshman receiver Jalen Smith of Mankato in the extra period to end the game.
Smith had two TD catches and was named the game’s offensive MVP.
Lindsey passed for 147 yards and two scores, while Darius Taylor ran for 116 yards and a TD.
Star defensive end Anthony Smith was name the game’s Most Valuable Player on defense. Maverick Baranowski had a career high 18 tackles.
Minnesota finished the year with an 8-5 record.
