Gopher Mens and Womens BB loses
(Minneapolis, MN) — Brennan Rigsby had 18 points but the Gophers couldn’t finish off No. 12 ranked Wisconsin as they fall 74-67 on Wednesday night at Williams Arena. John Blackwell had 25 points and 11 rebounds for the Badgers and will land a top seed for the upcominb Big Ten Tournament. Dawson Garcia had 14 points for the Gophers in their final home game. While the Badgers improved to 23-7 on the season the Gophers drop to .500 at 15-15. Minnesota will wrap up the regular season with a noon tip on Saturday at Rutgers.
(Indianapolis, IN) — Grace Grocholski had 21 points, but the Minnesota women’s basketball team (20-11, 8-10 B1G) fell to the Washington Huskies (19-12, 9-9 B1G) 79-65 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Wednesday in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Grocholski added seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals to her 21 point game to lead the Golden Gophers. The Minnesota defense caused its share of mistakes in Wednesday’s game, forcing 13 Washington turnovers while committing eight. Those takeaways turned into 21 points on the offensive end of the floor. Grocholski’s three steals led the way individually for the Maroon & Gold. It’s the second time in a week the Gophers fell to the Huskies as Washington also beat them 72-62 on February 26th at Williams Arena. While the Huskies will advance to face Michigan the Gophers will be forced to wait to see what their fate is in further postseason opportunities.
