Gopher Mens BB loses, Women win
(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Golden Gopher men’s basketball team allowed Maryland to finish the final three-minutes of the game on an 11-2 run to clip Minnesota in Minneapolis yesterday 67-62. The win was Maryland’s first in four games and improve the Terrapins mark to 9-14 overall and 2-10 in the Big Ten. The Gophers slipped to 11-13 overall and 4-9 in the conference. Minnesota sophomore Isaac Asuma of Cherry led the Gophers with 18 points, matching a career high. He hit six three-point baskets in the game. The setback was disappointing as it followed last Wednesday’s big Gopher win over tenth-ranked Michigan State. The Gophers play at Washington on Saturday night at 9 P-M.
(New Brunswick, NJ/Minnesota News Network) — The Golden Gopher women’s basketball team won its sixth consecutive game with a 63-52 win at Rutgers yesterday. Minnesota missed its first ten shots, but eventually got going to improve to 18-6 overall and 9-4 in the Big Ten. The host Scarlett Knights dipped to 9-15 overall and 1-12 in the league. Gopher senior Sophie Hart of Farmington registered a 17-point, ten-rebound double-double in the victory, while sophomore Tori McKinney netted 16 points. Mara Braun chipped in with 12 points. Minnesota forced 15 turnovers while committing only five. The Golden Gopher will host Nebraska on Thursday night at 7 P-M at Williams Arena.
