Gopher Women Defeat The Badgers
Four players scored in double digits and the University of Minnesota whipped Wisconsin yesterday in Minneapolis 88-53. The Golden Gophers raced to a 20-point halftime, which was cut to ten points in the third quarter. But, a 22-7 fourth quarter pushed Minnesota into the blowout victory. Gopher women’s coach Dawn Plitzuweit says her team responded after Wisconsin cut the large lead to ten in the third quarter.
Sophomore guard Tori McKinney of Minnetonka led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Grace Grocholski and Amaya Battle each added 18 points. Finau Tonga came off the bench to add ten points for Minnesota. Destiny Howell paced the Badgers with 16 points on 4-for-6 three-point shooting. The Golden Gophers improved to 14-6 overall and 5-4 in the Big Ten, while the visiting Badgers dipped to 13-8 overall and 5-5 in the conference. Minnesota visits Penn State on Wednesday night at 5 P-M.
