Gopher Womens BB and Wrestling both whip Wisconsin

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — Four players scored in double digits and the University of Minnesota whipped Wisconsin yesterday in Minneapolis 88-53. The Golden Gophers raced to a 20-point halftime, which was cut to ten points in the third quarter. But, a 22-7 fourth quarter pushed Minnesota into the blowout victory. Sophomore guard Tori McKinney of Minnetonka led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Grace Grocholski and Amaya Battle each added 18 points. Finau Tonga came off the bench to add ten points for Minnesota. Destiny Howell paced the Badgers with 16 points on 4-for-6 three-point shooting. The Golden Gophers improved to 14-6 overall and 5-4 in the Big Ten, while the visiting Badgers dipped to 13-8 overall and 5-5 in the conference. Minnesota visits Penn State on Wednesday night at 5 P-M.

The seventh-ranked Golden Gopher wrestling team won the final four matches to take down Wisconsin 26-10 yesterday at Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis. Minnesota improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten with the victory. The Badgers are now 10-2 overall and 2-2 in the league. Gopher 184-pounder Max McEnelly won by technical fall over David Malin, while Minnesota 157-pounder Charlie Millard and 165-pounder Andrew Sparks each won by major decision. Minnesota visits fourth-ranked Iowa on Friday night at 7 P-M in Iowa City.
