Gopher Womens BB upsets #10 Iowa on the road

(Iowa City, IA/Minnesota News Network) — The Golden Gopher women’s basketball team shot 10-for-14 from three-range and upset tenth-ranked Iowa in Iowa City last night 91-85. Junior forward Grace Grocholski scored a team-high 21 points to pace a Minnesota team that had five players in double figures. Senior guard Mara Braun of Wayzata added 16 points, including 4-for-4 from long distance. Point guard Amaya Battle of Hopkins had a 12-point, 14-rebound double-double to help the Gophers out rebound the Hawkeyes 41-28. Minnesota has won five straight games and improved to 17-6 overall and 8-4 in the Big Ten. The host Hawkeyes lost a third straight contest and dipped to 18-5 overall and 9-3 in the conference. Minnesota had not beaten Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena since 2007 and had not beaten a top ten team on the road since 2002. The Gophers visit Rutgers on Sunday at 11 A-M. Meanwhile, the Gopher men’s basketball team will host Maryland on Sunday at Williams Arena at 1 P-M. The Gopher men are fresh off their upset of tenth-ranked Michigan State on Wednesday night.
