Gopher Womens BB upsets #10 Ohio State

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The 23rd-ranked Golden Gopher women’s basketball team won for a ninth straight time, knocking off tenth-ranked Ohio State last night at Williams Arena 74-61. Two Minnesota players registered double-doubles in the victory, which pushed the Gophers to 21-6 overall and 12-4 in the Big Ten. Senior center Sophie Hart of Farmington scored 18 points and grabbed ten rebounds, while senior point guard Amaya Battle of Hopkins scored 13 points and hauled in 12 boards. Senior guard Mara Braun of Wayzata nearly had a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Minnesota out-rebound the visiting Buckeyes 47-32 and only committed nine turnovers. The Gophers took control of the game by outscoring O-S-U 27-13 in the third quarter. Minnesota hit all 11 of its free throw attempts. The Buckeyes fell to 22-5 overall and 11-4 in the conference. The Gophers will host number-16 Michigan State on Sunday in the final regular season home game of the year. Tip time on Sunday is 5 P-M at Williams Arena. In other women’s basketball, St. Thomas visits North Dakota State tonight at 7 P-M.
