Gophers, Tommies kickoff 2025 seasons tonight
(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota Gophers kick off the 2025 college football season with a game against the Buffalo Bulls at Huntington Bank Stadium tonight. The Gophers went 8-5 a season ago and are looking to build on that. Minnesota is 2-0 all time against Buffalo, including 17-7 victory in 2017 in P-J Fleck’s first game ever as head coach for the Gophers. He says tonight is all about his team and how well it executes the game plan. Minnesota has a first-time starting quarterback tonight in Drake Lindsey . Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 P-M.
The St. Thomas football team will open its season tonight when Lindenwood (MO) visits O’Shaughnessy Stadium in St. Paul for a 6 P-M game. The Tommies are hoping to build off of last year’s 6-6 record. The visiting Lions were 5-7 a year ago, but one of those wins was a 64-0 victory over St. Thomas. Both teams are now eligible for F-C-S Playoff competition for the first time, with both programs completing the transition to Division I.
