Graf Scores in Overtime as Sharks Rally Past Wild, 2-1
Collin Graf scored just 2:41 into overtime, capping a thrilling comeback as the surging San Jose Sharks edged the Minnesota Wild 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Graf took a slick feed from rookie Macklin Celebrini in front of the net, deked goaltender Filip Gustavsson, and slid the puck into an open cage for his second goal of the season—and the game-winner.
Will Smith also scored for San Jose, while goaltender Yaroslav Askarov turned aside 28 shots to help the Sharks extend their winning streak to four games. The team has now earned points in seven straight. Celebrini recorded two assists, giving him three goals and five assists during his four-game point streak.
Matt Boldy provided Minnesota’s lone goal, a power-play marker in the second period. His one-timer off a cross-ice feed from Mats Zuccarello marked his ninth of the season and fourth in the past four games. Gustavsson finished with 16 saves for the Wild, who had won four of their previous five games after ending October on a five-game skid.
Minnesota’s power play continued to shine, converting once on four opportunities. The Wild now sit at 28.8% (19-for-66) on the season—fourth best in the NHL entering the night.
San Jose responded with a power-play goal of its own in the third period, as Smith finished off some crisp tic-tac-toe passing in the offensive zone. The 19-year-old rookie now has three goals and four assists over his last five games.
