UPDATE – MURDER CHARGES FILED AGAINST ZIMMERMAN, VICTIMS’ NAMES RELEASED
The man accused in a double-homicide in Hanska Sunday has made his first court appearance in Iowa. Court records say that 45-year-old Randy T. Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of 50 year old Justin Paul Reinarts and 32-year-old Tabitha Leigh Trescott. Authorities say that they were called to a home in Hanska shortly before 4:30 Sunday morning by a 13-year-old juvenile who had reported that Zimmerman broke into the house and shot his mom and Reinarts. Zimmerman fled and was arrested in southeast Iowa later Sunday afternoon. According to a report from the Louisa County, Iowa Sheriff’s Department, Zimmerman led authorities on a high-speed chase and allegedly fire on shot at officers but missed. He tried to flee on foot after being forced into a ditch but was taken into custody by force. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office says that Zimmerman is awaiting extradition back to Brown County. He remains in the Louisa County jail on $5-million cash-only bond.
