Harriet Schmitz

Harriet Schmitz, age 103 of Wheaton, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Countryside Inn in Rosholt, South Dakota.

Visitation for Harriet Schmitz will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, MN.

Funeral services for Harriet Schmitz will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, MN, with Rev. Dan Gifford officiating.

Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wheaton.

Marvyl Harriet Schmitz was born on May 2, 1921 in Pelican Rapids Minnesota. God received Harriet on February 22, 2025. Harriet was baptized and confirmed by Ringsaker Lutheran Church. After graduating from Pelican Rapids High School, she went on to Moorhead Teachers College. There she met her lifelong friend Marieta Maudal. Harriet taught elementary for 40 years in St Cloud, Fergus Falls, and Wheaton, retiring in 1991. She was active in many clubs and activities, including Birthday Club, “Decade”, Ladies Circle, Bridge Club, and Retired Teachers.

Harriet and Arllis married on August 5, 1948. They enjoyed travel, and especially dances in Glenwood, MN.

Harriet is survived by her children: Brenda (Richard) Rostamo, Marsha Smith, Stephen Schmitz; three grandchildren: Thomas (Sandy) Rostamo, Tracy (Scott) Rostamo, and Tanner Schmitz; and two great-grandchildren: Lane and Marvyl Lamacraft.

Harriet is preceded in death by parents: Melvin and Clara Axness; sister: Aurlette Maattala; husband: Arllis; and many lifelong friends.
