Hike By Candlelight at Lac qui Parle State Park

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will host candlelight events across the state this winter, including one at Lac qui Parle State Park on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.

Officials say you can drop by any time between 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to hike, as stars twinkle overhead and candles flicker in the snow.

“Our candlelight event is a fantastic way to experience Lac qui Parle in winter,” said Terri Dinesen, park supervisor. “It’s a way to bond with friends and family while exploring nature under the glow of candlelight.”

The 0.8-mile trail starts at Group Camp 2 and ends at the historic warming shelter and is suitable for all level hikers of all ages.

Visitors can also warm up with a cup of hot cocoa and s’mores near a crackling bonfire.
