Hughes enters race!

KARLSTAD. — A Karlstad man is running for U.S. Congress as a Republican, challenging the seat’s Republican incumbent.
Dave Hughes announced his most recent campaign for the seat in the U.S. House representing Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Hughes, a retired Air Force major, is challenging incumbent Rep. Michelle Fischbach.
Hughes ran for the same seat in 2020, 2018 and 2016. He won the Republican Party endorsement in 2016 and 2018, but lost the race both years.

According to a news release. “Hughes enters the race with a clear message: Washington has grown too big, too intrusive, and too disconnected from the people it is supposed to serve. He is running to restore constitutional limits, protect individual liberty, strengthen national security, and return power to families, communities and states.”

State Rep. Heather Keeler, of Moorhead, and Erik Osber of Wadena, are running for the seat as Democrats.

The 7th Congressional District includes most of western Minnesota, running from the Canadian border south to Pipestone, Murray and Cottonwood counties.
