Hundreds Attend Memorial Day Ceremony at Fort Snelling National Cemetery
(Learfield News/Fort Snelling, MN) — Hundreds gathered at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Monday for this year’s Memorial Day Ceremony.
Governor Tim Walz said budgets that fund veterans and the Minnesota National Guard are always a top priority for the legislature. Walz said for the past four years in a near unanimous vote, the first things that leave the Minnesota Capitol were laws that fully fund our veterans homes, the state veterans cemeteries, and the National Guard’s enlistment bonuses. Walz said we get to speak our minds and have a difference of opinion because of the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar said we remember the courage of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and the heroic strength of their loved ones, saying “On this Memorial Day and every day, we have an obligation to those who laid down their lives so we could live ours. How do we do that? By caring for those who come back, making sure our vets get their disability claims processed, making sure we honor those who help them.”
Volunteers placed nearly 200-thousand flags at the graves of the fallen service members.
