James “Jim” Marlow Spore

Jim Spore, age 87 of Starbuck, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Fairview Health Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Visitation for Jim Spore will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until to 7:00 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck, MN.

Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN.

Funeral services for James Marlow Spore will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN, with Don Swenson, S.A.M. officiating.

Burial will be in Fron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck, MN.

Jim was born on October 4, 1938 in Butterfield, MN. He graduated from Winnebago High School in 1956. Jim proudly served our country in the United States Marines Corp from 1957-1960. After his service, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Caren Boettcher in Winnebago. Jim worked as a trucker and then worked at Hanson Telephone Company in Hanska before moving to Starbuck in 1974. He worked in the telephone business for many years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Starbuck VFW Post #4582 and a member of the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association. Jim enjoyed ice fishing, going to Truck Stops for a biscuits and gravy breakfast, reading, listening to old country music, and camping with his family. Most importantly, he was a great guy who will be missed by all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years: Caren Spore of Starbuck, MN; children: Kenneth (Roxanne) of Starbuck, MN, Ranae Spore of St. Cloud, MN, and Roxann Wiebusch of Apple Valley, MN; sisters: Elaine Senn of Jacksonville, Florida, Yvonne Hanks of Winnebago, MN, Sheryl Leach of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Karen (David) Messer of Redwood Falls, MN, and Pam Richer of Anoka, MN; five grandchildren: Karley Bastin (Steve Heck) of Sartell, MN, Craig Spore of Winona, MN, Jack Wiebusch of Orlando, FL, Nick (Connor) Peters of Starbuck, MN, and Alex (Tyler) Toop of Glenwood, MN; three great grandchild: Harper Heck of Sartell, MN, Rowyn and Hazel Peters of Starbuck, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Janice Krosch; brothers in law: Robert Hanks, James Leach, Tom Richer, and Curt Senn.
