Kandiyohi County Board Approves Pursuing Local Option Sales Tax

WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Board split 3-2 Tuesday in voting to pursue implementation of a 0.5% local option sales tax to fund two county building projects.

The West Central Tribune reports the approved resolution supports the county’s request to the Minnesota Legislature for authority to impose the tax that is estimated to raise $105 million over 25 years.

A local referendum also would be required.

The tax would fund two county projects: a new Justice Center and a renovation of the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services Building.

Together, the projects have a projected cost of $67,800,000.
