Lane closures on Interstate 94 between Osakis and Alexandria begin April 8

DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—Starting Monday, April 8, weather permitting, motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions on Interstate 94 between Osakis and Alexandria, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will install traffic control devices, replace guardrail and begin building crossovers for the upcoming concrete resurfacing and bridge replacement project on westbound I-94.

Once the crossovers are in place in early May, westbound traffic will be directed onto the eastbound lanes while crews begin work on westbound I-94. Through November, there will be one-lane head-to-head traffic through the project area, between Osakis and Alexandria.

The I-94 resurfacing and bridge replacement project will be constructed over two years. This year, crews will resurface westbound lanes, replace the westbound bridges over the CP Railway and Douglas County Road 23, and make repairs to three additional westbound bridges. In 2025, crews will replace the eastbound bridges over the CP Railway and County Road 23.

Central Specialties Inc., based in Alexandria, Minn., is the prime contractor for the $32.4 million project. For more information, visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/alex94bridges/.

In addition to this project, starting later in April, the Burgen Lake Rest Area, on westbound I-94 near Alexandria, will close to all travelers for a parking lot expansion project. Visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/burgenlake-lot to learn more.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
