Late surge gives Tommies win
(St. Paul, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The St. Thomas men’s basketball team used a late surge to beat South Dakota State last night in St. Paul 74-69. The victory was the 28th straight home win for the Tommies, the longest active streak in the nation. Junior forward Carter Bjerke of Wayzata scored a season-high 21 points, while freshman guard Nick Janowski also scored 21 points to help push St. Thomas to 16-5 overall and 5-1 in the Summit League. The Jackrabbits held an eight-point lead in the second half before St. Thomas rallied. S-D-S-U dips to 10-11 overall and 3-3 in the Summit League. The Tommies visit South Dakota tomorrow at 1 P-M. Meanwhile, the St. Thomas women host North Dakota tomorrow at 2 P-M in St. Paul.
