Lawmakers Pass State Budget, Eliminate MinnesotaCare for Immigrants
(Learfield News/St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota has a new two- year state budget this morning (Tues) but not without painful votes over undocumented health insurance.
DFL House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman voted against her party to eliminate the health insurance for illegal immigrants. Hortman said, “I know people will be hurt by that vote. I did what leaders do and I got the job done for the people of Minnesota.”
Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth said the decision was good for Minnesotans and their tax dollars. Demuth says a compromise will keep undocumented children on MinnesotaCare until age 18.
Governor Walz has said he won’t veto the measure and will sign the budget agreement.
